Stichting Update Materials (STUM)

Foundation Update Materials (ST.U.M.) was a Dutch label ran by Martin Hoogeboom, Leny Linssen, Theo Calis, Peter Kok in 1982. The label espoused its own philosophy of “improvisation” and “experiment”, concepts that influenced the releases. Music and lyrics were created without previous preparation. Experimentation was valued as a process with less importance attached to the outcome. It was important that artists were given complete freedom to record and release their music. ST.U.M. strived to offer buyers a solid and well-presented product at a reasonable price.
